So, I’ve been wanting to get a website setup for quite some time. However, I’m not really inclined to teach myself HTML or revisit my Java books, so have been scouting around for a while looking at different blogging software. The best one I found, the software used to create and run this site, is an open-source product called WordPress. Pretty powerful little tool, it can be found at www.wordpress.org. The site’s theme is based on the Telegraph theme WPZoom, and then further modified by yours truly. The site uses Akismet comment spam filtering, the All In One SEO Pack plugin, Bookmark Me, Google XML Sitemap, Rupert Morris’s awesome Lightbox II image plugin, the Feedburner Feedsmith plugin and WordPress Statistics. Upgrades are performed using the ingenious time-saving WordPress Automatic Upgrade tool from Keith Dsouza. Posts are composed using either the WordPress dashboard text editor or Windows Live Writer. The latter really is a fantastic tool, I recommend it to anyone using WordPress or other open-source blogging software, the Live Writer team are a great bunch and readily available to work on any bugs you may find with their baby.
